Crash
November 29, 2007
Yesterday was not the best day ever. I woke up early (when I say early I mean 7:30) so I could get ready to take our car in to get the mirror fixed. We had guests staying in our apartment over a long weekend while we were out of town and to take the burden of parking off our guests we parked our car on the street and let them use our garage. Apparently, when you do something nice you are payed back by someone knocking the drivers side mirror off your car. Let me tell you…its a biatch trying to drive in Chicago traffic without that mirror!
So after about a month of not having the mirror I made the proper arrangements to get it fixed. I was also planning to get the car detailed at the same time to get rid of the Charlie remnants/smell. So la de da, we are on our way at about 8 in the morning. We were traveling down Michigan avenue and all of a sudden we were moving in slow motion toward another cars rear end. CRUNCH! Ben and I both look at each other in disbelief and then I think we each muttered some expletives. We aren’t really sure what happened but it did.
Morning rush hour on Michigan ave with a 2 car collision…it’s a normal day in Chicago. I couldn’t help but notice a couple women standing on the sidewalk staring at us like we just caused a fatality. You could see it in their faces that they really wanted us to ask them to be a witness or involve them in some manner.
Anyway, we exchange information but the lady we hit was in a huge hurry and her car was not damaged at all (of course right?) so we didn’t get everything you would typically need. We decided it would be good to have a police report just in case something might happen. On our way to the PD I commented on how I should have confirmed the lady’s phone number but Ben assured me everything would be fine. Turns out, the phone number she gave us was wrong and the car was not registered in her name. Interesting…
So I proceeded to drive around Chicago with a battered car. Turns out there is at least $2,000 worth of damage and that is before they open the hood. All I can say is thank god for Allstate! Accident forgiveness is a wonderful thing. Now I am off to try and get an appointment with a body shop.
