Update:  I was asked for photographic evidence and this is the best I could come up with.  I am pretty amazed that by google-ing “rubberband jeans” I was actually able to come up with something.  If you type in “rubberband ankle jeans” my blog pops up as #3.  Ha!  I think that is pretty funny.  Here is my proof as best displayed on the girl wearing the black and white shoes (although they all did it).

So does anyone else remember “tight rolling” their jeans in the late 80’s?  You know, when you made a little fold in the ankle of your jeans and then rolled them up two times?  If you were cool you pulled your slouch socks up over the fold and spend 5 minutes per sock forming it into the perfect slouch.  If you were really cool, you wore two colors of slouch socks…and if you were really really cool (like me) you alternated the colors on each leg giving a really neato look.  I may have taken it as far as wearing two T-shirts of the same color as my socks (sleeves rolled of course) to match.  It is also possible that those same two shirts had shoulder pads.  I was SOO awesome!

Anyway, while driving through the West side of Chicago today in my rented Ford Focus I noticed a new trend.  Apparently, to be cool these days you have to wear REALLY tight booty jeans with bright white K-Swiss shoes and a puffy coat with a fur lined hood (you also must be using your cell phone).  Not only do you have to wear that but you also must wrap a rubber-band around your ankles making a little puff with your jeans.  I’m serious.  They wear jeans, pull a rubber-band up over them directly above the ankle and make a little puff.  I am not sure if they are trying to have cold ankles or show off their K-Swiss shoes but it looks pretty ridiculous.  I thought it was a fluke at first until I saw about 5 girls in different locations wearing thier jeans the same way.

I guess I am not really allowed to be a judge on what looks ridiculous since I have had my fair share of bad outfits.  I may or may not have worn a pair of cutoff overalls through college (only on hot lazy days), and I may or may not wear the most random outfits when walking the dog.  My most recent favorite was white socks, black Nike sandals, purple flowered PJ pants, a bright yellow ski coat, black scarf, white gloves, pink hat, and then the yellow hood of the coat pulled up over my hat.  HOT!  And Ben came out with me!

Anyway…everyone needs to go out and buy some rubber-bands so we can all be hip with the West-side kids.
