City Hall

June 6, 2008

Again, today I attempted to get our city parking permit.  The last time I tried they informed that they would not be available for sale until June 1.  That was after I walked all over the city trying to find City Hall.  For some reason, I always have a brain fart when it comes to the address…I’ve been there about 10 times, you think I would remember.

Anyway, work was a little slow this afternoon and my night time date was cancelled so I thought I would get a jump start on my evening activities downtown.  What better time than to tack on the parking pass “to-do” right?  So I get on the bus at 4:30 and realize that I am cutting it a little close, since City Hall closes at 5.  I sat there willing the bus to go faster but Michigan Ave at 4:30pm does not move at blazing speeds.  I jumped off the bus a little early at 4:45 and raced to City Hall (I remembered the address this time).

It was like a scene out of the movies…As I crossed the cross walk in front of City Hall I glanced at a lady’s watch and saw that it was about 1 minute to 5:00 (I secretly hoped her watch was wrong).  Then as I walked into the building I hear the bells at a nearby church ringing…which could only signal one thing.  I start running to the Transportation Office and as the door comes into view I see a police officer’s arm reach up to lock the door, then, click.  Ugh.  So close.

Instead of pleaing my case and beg that they let me in-which I knew would be a total waste of breathe (this is Chicago PD afterall) I sulked off sweaty and pissed off.  Did I mention that is is 87 and humid in the city today?

To calm myself, I did what I always do.  Stopped at  McDonald’s and got myself a coke- if it’s a really bad day I also get french fries.  I then proceeded down Michigan avenue to return some things and buy some raunchiness for an upcoming bachelorette party.

I hate city hall! I love that you get yourself a coke and fries if its a really bad day. I will totally drive way out of my way if I’ve done something that earns me a Frosty from Wendy’s. Rob once drove from Deerfield to the mall in Champaign and back in one day because he really wanted Sarku.
